The Rogue Kitchen (part 2)

Day 2 of the siege!

Oh my gosh, my golly!

Admit it, you sang that in your head! I know it's not Christmas, but I've been saying that phrase so much dealing with the kitchen floor.  From dirty, stained carpet to dusty underlayment to grimy newspapers and aged linoleum, I felt like a general leading the charge against a mortal enemy!

This second part of the kitchen makeover wasn't as bad as the first day - unless you count the exception of the neck gaiter and dust causing endless issues with allergies.  I had to stop so many times just to clear my sinuses - which means, with all the allergens trapped in the house, I will be purchasing air purifiers in the near future.

Destroying sandpaper essentially...

Sanding wood floors is a pretty big task, especially since there was a considerable amount of dirt in the wood grain.  See how pretty the sandpaper looks in this photo?

It didn't last long... :(

You think it would be an easy job right? Wrong! The sander picked up quite a few splinters along the way - and while you can keep going with it, the quality of the work suffers a bit.  Had to change sandpaper so often I considered buying stock in it!

Finally, the floor looked passable enough for everyone to walk on!

Brighter kitchen and more to do!

The transformation of the kitchen may have only just begun, but it looks a thousand times better! It looks bright and airy, and with a fresh coat of paint, it will start to have more of that country feel.  The plan for the color scheme is to paint the paneling a lovely sage green tone with a coffee color for the floor.  While there have been suggestions to stain the wood - and trust me, I'd love to - the process takes far too much time.  We've done it before in the old house, but the finish eventually became worn.  Not to mention, you can play with color splashes around the room and the cabinets would pop more.

So, let's take break from this room and give you a preview of what's next in the house:

My sister and I are hard at work remodeling our new bedrooms.  Suffice it to say, mine is going a lot smoother than hers - and for reasons I'll highlight in the next post.  As it stands now, I might win the silently proclaimed race of the bedroom renovations!

That will be all for today! Have a great Sunday and I'll see you all in the next blog!
