Stripping the Walls

Image
Wallpaper everywhere This house has been more work than anticipated - and I mean, a lot! From ripping out carpets to stripping walls and everything in between, it's a trip and then some.  That's not to say the work isn't rewarding.  Putting your own personal touch in an old farmhouse just creates a unique sense of joy.   The transformation is coming along, the bathroom being the fastest of all the rooms.  Some ideas had been tossed around in terms of color and for some reason, we went with a grey color scheme. Giving the bathroom some love You might recall seeing some brazen pink underneath the wallpaper. I present to you the upgrade! The wallpaper, installed in 1979, had aged to the point that most of it came off in large chunks.  The original color was some kind of off-white and the years were a bit unkind to it. Priming! The Bathroom Floor

Carpet in the bathroom... I'm back with more as promised in the last post! This week has been a doozy with working overtime at my new job and trying to balance house renovations with an abnormal sleep schedule.  It's a lot and somehow, I have the energy to accomplish all of it.  Good thing I have lots of coffee (and something of a weekend to sleep) to keep me going! This update will be a lengthier post than the previous one, so fasten your seatbelts! Up with the floor! I...

A Trip Back in Time

Interesting Finds Probably the coolest thing about this house is so much history is either buried or hanging out in the open.  Before I launch into the adventure known as the dining room, I want to share this interesting find:  I had looked around the attic before, but only when I was poking around did I spot this beauty! I intend to clean it out and restore it.  Figured it would serve well as extra clothing storage in my new bedroom. Yeet the carpet! Just like the kitchen, the dining room was jam-packed with old newspapers, most of which could not be preserved due to their condition.  However, I managed to preserve a few from the 1930s and '40s.  Let's take a trip! This photo is a bit dark, but you can see how dull the carpet looked.  It probably looked beautiful and vibrant when first put in, but years of wear and tear got the better of it. So, after I pulled up the foyer carpet - which, there wasn't much to see there other than gorgeous wood floors - my ...
